"There is no sweet dopamine hit to be had from something as mundane as crossing off tasks" I think that's why I went through a phase of writing lists for the day ahead that started with 'Wake up'. Instant feeling of being in control!

I hear you though - especially when you talk about the way supermarkets are laid out - so unconducive to how people think and probably more beneficial to the retailer (put the milk at the back so they have to go through the shop and get distracted by other things on the way). I envy your mum's approach to this!

PS We need a list of your top 10 sandwiches. Add that post to the list (sorry!)

Haha, I have been pondering the sandwich top 10 the last couple of days actually.

I love a list but they make me super anxious, if something needs doing , I try just and do it then and there , or as quick as I can so things don’t build up ! When I do have a list though, it’s a great feeling to cross it off when done ! Good post 😃

"Tharn"--- lapine is on my list of languages I speak fluently. I sign guest books as "DJ Hrududu"... I posted about lists awhile back, but I don't remember in what context. I reckon I need a spreadsheet list of my posts now. Good stuff 🐰

I love that! Full disclosure: I've never read Watership Down. I was eternally scarred by the 80s cartoon as a child and I'm not sure I can face the book. I got 'tharn' from The Stand. I'm off to find your lists post.

I forgot, yes that word is in the Stand! Give yourself the gift of reading the book one day... I remember the cartoon. I was little and it was scary. Before the Internet I wanted to remember what it was like so I read the book vs googling. (Also thanks for subscribing!)

Reading a book before Google feels so antiquated. Like, just that sentence is relentlessly ageing.

Great writing ànd good for me learning a lot of interesting new words in English, which is not my native language. You’re teaching, how about that ?

I always thought I'd be a terrible teacher. Glad you enjoyed the piece.

Nice bit of writing bro, my kid has ADHD, so I can relate. And my wife is super organised. An ongoing battle!

Thanks man, glad you enjoyed it. That ongoing battle sounds like it'll be eternal.

I love this!!! But also: I am sorry for your list less listlessness. It sounds like a painful affliction, but for what it’s worth, that is one beautiful bit of wordplay. And surely also some sort of tongue twister?? Try saying it five times in a row…

I also appreciated the Watership Down reference, which awoke something mildly traumatic from the depths of my inner child… not sure I want to relive it, so I guess I’ll just hum Bright Eyes on repeat.

One final thing: I also make my lists in the order of the supermarket. Sorry, but I’m with your mum on this one. It just means I can completely check out when I’m shopping, and turn the whole thing into an episode of Supermarket Sweep: exactly how fast can I get this week’s shop in?

Beautiful writing as always. Lots of energy, and your frustration - while genuinely troublesome for you, I appreciate that - just leaps off the screen through your words. Nicely done!
