Ah man, that’s a lot of falling?! Hope the wounds are healing up.
My worst was circa 2007. I’d been at Elland Rd, Leeds won and I’d bagged £300 on a long shot accumulator so basically felt indestructible.
We went for several drinks to celebrate then, obviously, I decided to run home. In January. Slipped on some ice, face planted and chipped both front teeth.
Oh no Lewis ! That’s horrible! I hope you’re nearly all healed now. I fell over couple of weeks ago when it was really icy ! I’ve fallen over a few times over the last few years and never ever has anyone ever come to help me !!! Is it a London thing ?
Thanks Francis. I won’t deign to answer for you, but in my case I suspect it’s just a consequence of ageing. My balance definitely ain’t what it used to be, even just putting on my shoes has become dicey!
When pregnant with my first son I tripped on the kerb after getting out of a taxi to the hospital to go to an antenatal appointment, nearly fell on the bump and to avoid that, hurtled myself onto a railing, smashing my front teeth and needing pliers to set them straight in A and E. Still had my teeth - for now.
Hope it heels quickly. Sea water is always good for healing wounds, but it’s pretty bloody cold right now. Possibly best avoided. I wonder how many people slipped in the last coupe of weeks? Been reading about another one on here this evening
I am stitching back together nicely. A rather expensive collagen gel is helping. Unfortunately I’m not very close to the sea, so brining isn’t an option.
Yup, I was at that stage a couple of years ago. In the space of a week, I managed to fall over 3 times. All of them walking the dog, who just stared at me as if I was inventing some new game. The third one was the worst. I was crossing the road, whilst waving at another walker and the kerb must have grown an extra foot cause I tripped on it and started to fall
However, I ended like that dude in Empire Strikes Back who gets shot by the AT-AT and stumbles on for about half a dozen steps before crashing to the ground. Lots of people saw me. No one rushed to my aid. But no one laughed, so there is that 😁
I had another fall about 30 odd years ago that was more serious. I chat about it in an article I’m writing about The Shining so with that inference you can imagine it wasn’t any fun 🤕
I'm lucky in that I've not had too many falls (yet - now I've jinxed it) but I did have a nasty one a few years back in Kyiv, it was icy as hell (and they never salt the pavement or roads, it's every man and woman for him/herself) and I was holding my daughter and lost my balance. When a child's involved, you want to protect the little shits at all costs so I had no choice but to fall backwards and whack the back of my head hard on the ice while my daughter giggled. Thankfully she was fine, but I'm not sure what hurt me worse - my head or my pride. Two burly men came to our aid and in a country like Ukraine where old gender stereotypes die hard, my ego was badly bruised.
Brilliant take on that fell-over-vs-had-a-fall distinction! The 2-2 score beteen comedy and concern is perfect framing. I've noticed the same shift around my mid-40s where falls started hurting longer and healing slower, but the worst part is definitly when younger people rush to help instead of laughing.

That taught me to beat the bookies.
Oooh, yeah, I’ve chipped teeth and that shit is not fun. The bookies tilted your world. Even when you win, they win.

Ouch!

It’s a tipping point, right? No pun intended. Kerbs get higher, drains get lower. The earth conspires.
Mate, please be careful!

Ouch! The back of the head is the bit we don't really want to bash, I'm glad you were okay.
And honestly, I do try to be careful. I've just had a bit too much belief in my abilities.

Thank you so much! Being helped up is mortifiying, no two ways about it, but at least it shows there's plenty of kindness out there, I guess.
